On this World Health Day, VIA Global Health joins the global health community in committing to address health inequities worldwide and will be supporting the World Health Organization’s campaign to Build a Fairer, Healthier World.

Currently, about half of the world’s people do not receive all the essential health services they need, and millions more people are driven into poverty each year by health care costs. (World Health Organization) Our company was founded on the principle that all people should have access to quality health care, including life-saving medical equipment and supplies, regardless of where they live. VIA Global Health is a global distribution channel for medical equipment and supplies, specifically serving lowand middle-income countries and suppliers seeking to enter or expand in these markets. To date, VIA has positively impacted the lives of nearly 2 million people through the thousands of medical products we have sold into over 70 countries, and we are just getting started.

Today marks the second World Health Day to fall during the COVID-19 pandemic, which continues to serve as a stark reminder about the unfinished business in global health in addressing inequities and disparities. This pandemic has hit the entire world, but especially the countries and communities who are already vulnerable- with higher risks of exposure and illness, and whose access to quality health care services is more limited. Globally, over 2.8 million people have died from COVID-19, and more than 130 million people have been infected, many of whom are experiencing longer term health consequences, and against a backdrop of major disruptions and setbacks in other health outcomes, such as in maternal and newborn health. (World Health Organization) The social, emotional, and economic toll of the COVID-19 pandemic are almost unfathomable.

VIA believes access to quality healthcare is a basic human right, that health inequities are unfair, and they are also preventable. There is much work to be done to address these inequities, and this World Health Day is an opportunity for us to continue innovating, scaling, and serving our customers.
