FAQ
What is a FitCup®?
The FitCup® is a reusable menstrual cup made of medical-grade silicone that you place in your vaginal canal to collect your menstrual flow. It collects rather than absorbs, which means no dryness or disruption to your natural vaginal pH. It’s easy to use, comfortable, and can be worn for up to 12 hours
What's the difference between cups and tampons?
👉🏿 Cups made of medical-grade silicone are biocompatible with our bodies, leaving zero chemical residue | Conventional tampons made of rayon or bleached cotton are linked to harmful hormone-disrupting chemicals
👉🏿 Cups last up to 10 years | Tampons are single use
👉🏿 Cups *collect* your flow, which means they’re non-drying/irritating to the vaginal tissue | Tampons *absorb* your flow, which can disrupt your natural pH and leave you dry
👉🏿 Cups can be worn for up to 12 hours | Tampons have to be changed every 4-6 hours
Is there an age minimum for cup use?
Though there’s no official age minimum to using our FitCup, we think it’s best used by women who’ve had their periods for at least a year and are intimately familiar with their cervix, vagina and menstrual flows. Why? There’s a learning curve to using menstrual cups and successful insertion and removal requires users to be knowledgeable of and comfortable with vaginas.
How long does our FitCup menstrual cup last and when will I know it’s time to replace it?
The good news is that with proper care our FitCup can easily last up to 10 years!! Be sure to regularly inspect your FitCup and you’ll know it’s time to replace it if you see signs of deterioration, such as tears or stickiness. You may also notice some discolouration over time, but this is normal and will not affect the performance of your cup 😍 👍🏽
Can I get infections from the cup?
Infection from the cup is a very rare complication. There’s negligible evidence linking the menstrual cup to infections. However, an infection could arise when bacteria on your hand moves to the cup. To reduce this risk, we recommend always washing your hands with water and soap before and after handling the cup before. You should also rinse your cup with clean water before reinserting it in your vaginal canal.
