Usability
The HEMAFUSE® System works such that when the handle is pulled up, blood is pulled through a filter. The specialized design of the filter removes clots and impurities. When the handle is pushed down, the blood is then pushed through tubing into a blood bag to be re-transfused to the same patient. Autotransfusion is viable for first trimester pregnancy complications like ruptured ectopic pregnancy, the leading cause of maternal mortality in the first trimester. Other uses include abdominal bleeding, and cardiac or trauma-related surgeries.
Design
The HEMAFUSE® Pump is designed to be reused up to 25 times. The HEMAFUSE® Filters and Accessory Kits are single-use. Please refer to the diagram in the Product Resources section for a detailed view of the product.

“Autotransfusion is the best… It’s better than giving someone else’s blood to the patient. Now that Hemafuse is here [in Ghana], we are advocating to get more in the system. Every theatre should have one, if not one, two.”
