The Pumani bubbleCPAP is an innovative respiratory support device designed for newborns and children, offering a low-cost yet highly effective solution for continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) therapy. Engineered for durability, this device is built to operate flawlessly for years, coming equipped with spare parts and a comprehensive repair manual for straightforward, annual maintenance. The Pumani stands out by delivering therapeutic pressure levels comparable to the more sophisticated and expensive gold-standard bCPAP devices found in the United States, all while maintaining simplicity and cost-effectiveness.

The device’s operation is ingeniously simple, consisting of a flow source, a pressure source, and patient tubing. The air flow is generated by an air pump, whereas the pressure necessary for effective CPAP therapy is created using a water bottle. Remarkably, the Pumani’s only moving parts are small diaphragms that are inexpensive to replace, costing less than $1, and are included with the device. Demonstrating its global impact, the Pumani is currently in use in 35 countries worldwide, making it a vital tool in enhancing respiratory care for the most vulnerable patients across the globe.

Testimonials

“The Dominican Republic started to install the 22 Pumani CPAPS… All started to work perfectly in sick babies in Clinics where there is no Oxygen or compressed wall air. The nurses are learning and it has been a great success as we thought it would. Some private Clinics are interested in buying.”

VIA Verified Buyer, MD, FAAP, Assistant Professor of Clinical Pediatrics, Dominican Republic

“The conclusion is that PUMANI is by far the safest CPAP. Most reliable, user friendly and has had a good acceptance.”

FAQ

How does the Pumani bubbleCPAP work?

The Pumani bubbleCPAP contains two main components that provide pressurized airflow to the patient: the pump and the water bottle. There is a pump inside of the unit that provides the airflow to the patient. There is a water bottle located on the outside of the unit that sets the pressure (in cm of H2O) of the airflow delivered to the patient.

Inside the unit, the pump flow combines with the oxygen flow, and this is known as the ‘total flow.’ The total flow is the flow that is delivered to the patient.

Outside the unit, the water level in the water bottle sets the pressure in the tubing, typically between 5-8 cm H2O. You can increase the pressure level by adding water, or decrease the pressure by removing water.

Is it better to use tap water or distilled water in the bottle?

Distilled water is better to keep the bottle clean, but you can use either tap water or distilled water. The water vapor will never contact the patient, so the cleanliness of the water is not important.

What do I need to do to make sure the Pumani device runs for many years?

To optimize the performance of the Pumani unit, you may need to replace the pump filter every 1-2 years, depending on the level of debris that enters the unit.

To check the functionality of the Pumani unit, determine if you need to replace the filter, and view instructions on how to replace the filter, see the User & Repair Manual.

Does the Pumani bubbleCPAP require a separate compressed air source or O2 blender?

No, the Pumani bubbleCPAP has an air pump that provides pressure from room air, and the ability to blend room air with oxygen from a concentrator or oxygen tank.

What are the power requirements for the Pumani bubbleCPAP?

The device requires 220v power. The system has no battery back up and needs to be run with UPC for continuous usage in settings without intermittent power.

Do I need a voltage converter with the Pumani bubbleCPAP?

The Pumani runs on 220 volt AC (wall) power. If your facility uses 220 V AC power, you do not need a voltage converter. If your facility uses 120 V AC power, you do not need a voltage converter either. You may still need an adapter on the end of the power cord to plug the cord into your outlet.

Can I use different accessories with the Pumani bubbleCPAP if I run out of accessories?

No, the Pumani accessories are designed specifically to provide the correct levels of flow and pressure to the patient. If you use different accessories that are not part of the Pumani bubbleCPAP product, you may provide an unsafe level of flow or pressure to the patient and harm the patient. We recommend that you ONLY use Pumani accessories with the Pumani bubbleCPAP unit.
