About the Hemafuse®
The research is clear— your own blood is better than someone else’s. The HEMAFUSE® System, Sisu Global’s patented autotransfusion device, saves lives and increases access to blood by collecting a patient’s own blood, filtering it, and returning the fresh, whole blood back to that same patient. In essential cases where every minute is critical, the HEMAFUSE® System provides surgical teams with immediate access to high quality whole blood transfusion. Sisu engineered the HEMAFUSE® Pump to be reusable to provide an affordable and cost-effective solution for intraoperative autotransfusion. Developed alongside experts in autotransfusion and medical education, the training program consists of e-learning courses, mobile applications, written curriculum, live virtual sessions with certified HEMAFUSE® trainers and more.
- Sisu also offers “microlearning” HEMAFUSE® Clinical Training courses through the learn.ink mobile training platform. The learn.ink platform connects via WhatsApp at the healthcare provider level and provides a mechanism to communicate and receive feedback from clinicians and users in the field.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the HEMAFUSE® System reusable?
The HEMAFUSE® Pump can be sterilized 25 times and reused. The HEMAFUSE® Filter and Accessory Kit is single use and must be disposed of after each use.
How long after trauma can blood be salvaged?
As long as the blood is pooled inside the body, it may be viable for transfusion. The patient care team is responsible for following the approved indications and contraindications listed in the Instructions for Use.
Has the HEMAFUSE® System received US FDA approval?
- A single use configuration of the HEMAFUSE® System has received US FDA Clearance to meet the needs of the US market.
- The design and materials used are the same in both configurations. The differences between the single use configuration and the reusable configuration of HEMAFUSE® are in the packaging and labelling.

How long after collection can autologous blood be transfused?
Blood collected by the HEMAFUSE® System is recommended to be re-transfused within 6 hours after collection and does not need refrigeration until after that time.
What if the patient has HIV or other blood-borne diseases?
If the virus or bacteria is already present, as in an HIV positive patient, HEMAFUSE® is safe to re-transfuse that patient’s own blood back to himself.
Does the HEMAFUSE® Pump come sterile?
No, the Pump must be autoclaved before every use in surgery including the first use.
Can only a surgeon operate the device?
No, every surgical team operates differently, and it is at the discretion of the surgical team who operates performs which roles when using HEMAFUSE. Nurses and other team members can use it successfully.
